TDK Japan launched the “HS1″ series, a line of 1.8-inch solid state disks (SSD) with the Micro SATA interface, targeting notebook computers and industrial devices. The TDK HS1 series comes in three models with storage capacities of 16, 32 and 64 Gbytes, respectively. The product uses SLC (single-level cell) NAND flash memory. Burst performance is 100MBps reading and 50MBps writing. To accelerate the writing speed, the TDH HS1 disk has a four-channel bus, which extended the standard one- or two-channel bus, between the controller LSI and the NAND flash memory.

The encryption method used in the disk is 128-bit AES. The disk also has a function to detect and correct errors up to 7 bits. The combination of MLC memory and the controller IC provides the disc a rewrite life of 10 years (when operated 24 hours a day, 365 days a year), according to TDK. The TDK HS1 disks are now available for volume shipment at sample prices of ¥200,000 (1,902) for a 64-Gbyte model, ¥150,000 ($1438) for a 32-Gbyte model and ¥90,000 ($865) for a 16-Gbyte model.

TDK has developed and began mass production of the industry’s first automotive clamp filter in December. The new filter is called the ZCAT08V-BK, ZCAT12V-BK. TDK developed clamp filters that are suitable for automotive use as an effective noise countermeasure against the effects of electromagnetic noise on the cables that link the various onboard ECUs and units. TDK’s clamp filters have an original structure consisting of a vertically-split cylindrical ferrite core with an integrated resin case for mounting on cables. The ferrite material, a key component of the filter, provides outstanding magnetic characteristics and high-frequency absorption properties achieved through precise control of the fine structure using TDK’s original materials and process technologies.

The resin case and core material have been improved to enhance heat resistant and shock resistance for use in automotive applications. The operating temperature range has been increased from earlier TDK products (-25 C - 85 C) to -40 C - 125 C.
