VAULKHARD NARROWLY MISSES OUT ON CHAMPIONSHIP TITLE BUT WINS CLASS
Newcastle businessman Nigel Vaulkhard narrowly missed out on the HSCC/HRSR Historic Racing Saloons Championship title on Saturday (Oct 20) as he finished second overall.
Mr Vaulkhard went into the final round of the series at Silverstone with a two-point lead in the standings and needed to win his class to take the title.
But Mr Vaulkhard did not finish the race after being caught up in an incident early on in which another car shunted his classic Ford Mustang and a fellow competitor off the track.
Racing runs in the Vaulkhard family and it was hoped that they would be able to celebrate a double success after this weekend as just last Sunday Mr Vaulkhard’s son Harry won the Seat Cupra Class R championship on his 22nd birthday.
But despite missing out on the HSCC/HRSR Historic Racing Saloons title after seeing his event brought to a premature end, Jesmond-based Mr Vaulkhard claimed the honours in class K1.
“I’m disappointed not to win the title but I’ve accepted it. Second is still a good result and I’m pleased to win the class,” Mr Vaulkhard said.
Harry added: “It’s a shame that we both couldn’t win championships and have a double title celebration but for my dad to win the class and get second overall is still excellent. Unfortunately that’s the way things go in motorsport sometimes.”
Harry is currently sponsored by Bedsearcher, Orange Bus IT, Smuggling Duds, Gate 7, Creative Image, CustomCart.co.uk, Say Something PR and MobiFi. He is looking for sponsorship for next season with competitive packages available.
