iPhone’s on EBay

Posted In: News by Alex

Well finally all the Apple stores are now open and selling iPhones, already there are a few which have gone stright on EBay and asking for a nice price. The iPhone above is asking a massive $5,000. Over the rest of the night im sure many more will go up and start selling, but if you are going to buy an iPhone over the internet go to Apple’s website and buy one there. The price plans are a bit expensive but we all expected that but if you can afford an iPhone get one they are truly amazing! More pictures below of iPhone’s on EBay.

Oh man, here we go. Another rumor about that 3G European iPhone. This time, the source is Guy Kewney of Newswireless who, until recently, doubled as eWeek.com’s European wireless editor — i.e., he’s the real deal. As the story goes, Apple is set to announce a four-way deal: Vodafone and T-Mobile on the carrier front with Carphone Warehouse out in front as the MVNO. Hmmm, well, this kind of deal would certainly provide Apple’s upstart mobile phone with far broader coverage than a Vodafone exclusive could muster while providing a solid brick-and-mortar base on a continent (mostly) void of Apple stores. Best of all for Europeans, the announcement expected on Monday will be 3G. That’s right, while you’re queuing up for EDGE data, Europeans might be unwrapping an HSDPA iPhone in a 4-way press release. Here’s the rub, bub: do you really think Apple will provide Europe a 3G iPhone before the end of the year and not release it in the US at the same time? Now the tough choice: stand in line for your 2.5G iPhone or wait and see what happens on Monday with this rumor (and we repeat, it’s just rumor at this point). Decisions, decisions.

Ebay Selling Black People?

Posted In: News by Alex

Take a look at the second result in my google search for Black People

I get that sponsored link EVERY SINGLE TIME I search for Black People. It never ever comes up if I search for Jewish People (historically, the other “slave race”). Why does eBay gotta be hatin’ like that?

I’ll be contacting eBay regarding this…either they should start advertising the sale of other races or stop advertising the sale of black people.

Quiet on 5th Ave

Posted In: 5th Ave, Store, Apple by Alex

Proving the old adage, “The media loves a whore,” the man with the pole posish at the 5th Avenue Apple Store iPhone line, Greg Packer, was besieged by microphones and cameras. An NBC news van was on its way out as I came in, and it looks like Fox News woke up one of their reporters for a quick stand-up. No comb, buddy? What startled me most was when Packer rose out of his seat and left. You think the #1 man in line would guard that spot with his life. He came back, though, and I’m glad he did. Because he changed shirts. And I saw them. Both of them. The nipples that are more well known than Packer’s day job. Happily for you, I was too stunned to get a snap. – Pics and reporting by Kevin Hall

The duct tape server

Posted In: News by Alex

Sometimes a mod project comes along that makes you ask yourself, “Hey, is this really called for?” And then you have to think long and hard on the answer, but this may be one of those cases (literally) where the answer is unequivocally yes. Using four rolls of duct tape, a quarter roll of translucent tape, and a Pentium P4 (with mobo, assorted drives, etc.), “Team Boom Tape” have created what seems to be the first-ever server assembled completely from tape. Yes, tape. Hit the read link and revel in all the adhesive glory.

Sony VAIO TZ impressions

Posted In: News by Alex

Sony’s SSD-riffic VAIO TZ laptop still hasn’t officially made it to North America, but that hasn’t stopped some folks from doing the importing thing to get their ultraportable fix, one of which has kindly put together a few first impressions for NotebookReview. On the whole, the individual (known only as “Outrigger”) seems to be quite pleased with the purchase (despite the premium price), especially digging the laptop’s good looks and LED-backlit screen, as well as its “extremely long” battery life. On the downside, as nice as that SDD drive is, Outrigger would have liked to see more than 32GB of it, as well as more than one RAM slot. Not surprisingly, he also found that the laptop is “not made for gaming,” with none of Santa Rosa’s benefits to be found either. Still, if portability is your top concern, it looks like a solid enough choice, assuming that the near $3,000 price tag doesn’t turn you off, that is.

iPhone’s Ringtones tab?

Posted In: News by Alex

See that picture on the top? It comes straight from the iPhone’s Q&A page. Go ahead, count the iTunes tabs… we’ll wait. Right, 8 tabs. Up until now, Apple’s only been showing the iPhone’s iTunes sync with 6 tabs: Summary, Info, Music, Photos, Podcasts, and Video. So what can we expect on the other two (assuming this isn’t another graphics screw-up)? Well, MacRumors is speculating Ringtones on one of them, and we think they’re right. After all, we photographed a Ringtones tab during the iPhone’s MacWorld debut. They’re reporting that the unreleased iTunes version 7.3 — listed as a requirement on the iPhone specs page — will introduce a steep, $0.99 ringtones service to create your own 30 second ringtone from available iTunes (store) tracks. No word on whether it will work with tracks you already own. Whatever the case, Apple certainly seems poised to make good on their promise to “surprise and delight” iPhone owners with software updates. $0.99, though? If true, well, it would definitely be surprising since that’s the cost to purchase a full single. Now, what could that other tab be for?

Update: And sure enough, Apple’s dropped the image back down to six tabs. (Shown above.) Why fight it, Cupertino? You know we’re all watching. Thanks, Duvi.

Sony VAIO TZ1

Posted In: News by Alex

Remember the Sony VAIO TZ1? If you don’t then I’ll refresh your memory. This is the hottest VAIO laptop to date and to see it in person was a real treat considering the general public won’t see it for a while, if at all. Michael Tchong told me it made Vista “tolerable” thanks to the 32GB SSD. He also mentioned he’d like the option to run XP instead to boost the overall quickness. Vista takes up a hefty 9GB while XP weighs in at 5GB. The extra 4GB is going to make a big difference when your total capacity is 32GB. I was so jealous and when he told me his previous laptop was the ASUS Lamborghini I just had to step away and cry in the corner.
